Notes-12

January 13, 2006

This arrived in my mailbox on January 9th from our good friend Philip Martin. He sounds tanned, rested and refreshed:

Greetings:

With all of the fanfare and excitement surrounding the 80th Birthday of the Grand Ole Opry, I wanted us all to pay tribute to this day in the life of Patsy Cline. This day must have been hugely special to her, as it was on this day in 1960 that Patsy Cline became a member of the Grand Ole Opry.

I will be establishing a new E-News publication that will be sent out to keep our thriving online community connected. There will be a lot of exciting news to share with you soon.... Coupled with a new focus, even greater enthusiasm, and a "laser-like" mission to establish a permanent tribute to Patsy Cline, I am beginning the new year rejuvenated and re-energized. I am committed to continuing my quest to make the best possible tribute to Patsy Cline a reality.

Thank you one and all for your continued support.

Philip

No, Philip; it is we who thank you. For some folks out there, it could have been any old warm body; but for us, it could only have been Patsy. That's the difference. As Patsy would say, let's homogenize this effort for Patsy... why, hell yes, whatever you do to go UP!

January 1, 2006

Y'all won't believe this, but at about 3 minutes after midnight... I turned on the XM Radio to pull up something festive. I was using the dial instead of the preset buttons, and the first thing I spun it to was the Fifties Channel. I enjoy 50s music when I hear it, but I don't seek it out, because it's my parents' music, for one, and well, I just prefer 70s because that is my music. So here I was on Fifties for no reason, and strangely, Patsy was on the there, and she was performing for me personally, "I Fall to Pieces." First song of 2006! What do you think about that? She tryin' to tell me somethin'? That's a Patcident for sure. Anything like that ever happen to you?

By the way, did you set your clocks back one second last night? Leap seconds can be tricky. I always have trouble adjusting to them, it screws up my sleep patterns. Read about it here.

Well, as we close out this year, I want to take a moment to thank all of the visitors to this site who purchase items through the Amazon links provided at the Get Patsy Stuff page. Every penny helps pay to keep this site operating, and is so very much appreciated! Thanks for taking the time to do it that way.

Another item of housekeeping: this month has generated a ton of email in my mailbox. I'm doing my best to answer what I can, but please don't think I'm heartlessly blowing you off if I don't get to answer yours. My life outside of PatsyLand is a very full plate and it's often hard to balance everything. But please know that your mails are very much appreciated!

The following is modified from a sermon by Rev. Philip Clarke.

....So we do not mourn this woman, but rather we celebrate a dream fulfilled. Some may say, "But her life was too short, it ended too soon!"

But the Dreamweaver answered, "Her life has been a thread of yarn in my woven tapestry. Although it seemed to be too short, in truth it was complete in me. I've sent you to tell those who'll hear, 'Dream the dreams, for my rules are still the same.' I, the Dreamweaver, have a dream, and soon my tapestry will be complete. Each life, each dream is a strand of my tapestry."

And as I turned to leave, he added, "Oh, yes: tell those who mourn Patsy, who love Patsy, or who are now rejoicing for Patsy... when the tapestry is complete, they'll see her again!"

While reflecting on this rollercoaster of a year, I was thinking back and remembering 3 years ago this month how Auction Day felt (the warm hug of meeting an online friend), looked (lots of gold lamé), sounded (Patsy CDs), smelled (of Wind Song... strongly), and tasted (surprisingly good hamburgers and fries). Reading back over that day, and remembering how the Patsifan Movement was born from that event, I am more determined than ever to help get a new fan effort for Patsy rolling in 2006. I refuse to cave just because a wayward group tried to derail us.

"Never falter, never fail... keep your hand upon the throttle and your eyes upon the rail."

We want to honor Patsy in a manner that is by the fans, of the fans, and for the fans. Something for fans who haven't yet been born... oh, how I envy them! They have over a hundred songs ahead of them to listen to for the first time! They have Patsy moments ahead of them, like this one and this one and this one and this one and this one and this one and this one and this one and this one and this one and this one and this one and this one and so many more. Let's do it for the future! Don't forget, there's a new Patsifan born every day.

Now that we are all wiser, we've realized that we cannot trust anyone else with a fan effort; it only makes sense that WE FANS do it ourselves. It's like when Dorothy realized that she held the power to get back to Kansas all along... we've had the power all along to get this done! We're only just now realizing it.

We'll fight to get it done. We'll fight until Hell freezes over... and then we'll fight on the ice.

An interesting, albeit spooky, item comes from Brian D.:

Thanks for the great website. My wife and I were watching the movie "Sweet Dreams" and as I pilot I was intrigued by the history of the accident which took Patsy Cline’s life. Upon reading the information on your website I was surprised to realize that they were in a Comanche and not a Cessna as the movie portrays. How difficult would it have been to make that right? Also the ending was too Hollywood. Of note is that aircraft like it are still flying, in fact I was able to find an example that would have been in construction at the same time, probably sharing the same space in the hanger. Its serial number is only 2 numbers off, and the tail number registration is only 1 number.  Anyway I wish the Hollywood types would take greater effort at getting the historical data right, as Patsy surely deserved it.

Piper Comanche Type PA-24-250, Registration N7001P, Serial Number 24-2146

Randy Hughes Plane: Piper Comanche Type PA-24-250, Registration N7000P, Serial Number 24-2144

From Jim McCoy:

We want to wish you a very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year from the Troubadour Restaurant, Troubadour Recording Studio, and Troubadour Records. Also, please remember we will be having a New Year's Eve dance Saturday, Dec. 31st. The music will be by Major Moves, and it will be from 9 pm until 1 am. We will have plenty of snacks & party favors -- tickets are on sale now!

I've made it easy for you to get Patsy's own fragrance for yourself here. If you are a guy, or you don't wear fragrance, you might still consider buying the candle version... those things have been known to conjure Patsy in spine tingling ways.

As the year closes, I'm thinking of Patsy's blouses:

Yes, the two blouses we fans won at the auction in 2002. Theresa and I didn't attend that auction for ourselves; we just did it out of love for Patsy Cline, nothing else. There was no agenda there; we simply wanted to connect with Patsy in a touchable way. Theresa did get a chance to touch the blouses, I never did. Most of us never will. So maybe in the end, it's the idea of "touching" Patsy that holds our imaginations breathless; the idea that we sort of could connect with Patsy physically has deep meaning and gives one pause. Such an amazing dream.

Well, don't let go of that dream, don't let go of that feeling! Because that part is real and that is what will propel us to eventual success. Look at those photos and dream! Those blouses belong to us in spirit, we all know that. They always will. They represent an important truth: PATSY CLINE IS REMEMBERED AND LOVED. Period. It would be nice and correct and decent if we fans still physically possessed them, but we don't need them in order to know that important truth. The Whos in Whoville didn't need gifts and trees and roast beast, did they? Christmas came, even though the Grinch had stolen every physical representation of Christmas from the Whos, because Christmas is in the heart. Patsy is in our hearts; we don't need her blouses or her hats or anything else. Remember the words of Dr. Seuss:

So he paused. And the Grinch put a hand to his ear.
And he did hear a sound rising over the snow.
It started in low. Then it started to grow...
But the sound wasn't sad! Why, this sound sounded merry!
It couldn't be so! But it WAS merry! VERY!
He stared down at Who-ville! The Grinch popped his eyes!
Then he shook! What he saw was a shocking surprise!
Every Who down in Who-ville, the tall and the small,
Was singing! Without any presents at all!
He HADN'T stopped Christmas from coming! IT CAME!
Somehow or other, it came just the same!
And the Grinch, with his grinch-feet ice-cold in the snow,
Stood puzzling and puzzling: "How could it be so?
It came without ribbons! It came without tags!
"It came without packages, boxes or bags!"
And he puzzled three hours, `till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before!
"Maybe Christmas," he thought, "doesn't come from a store.
"Maybe Christmas... perhaps... means a little bit more!"

Quick note to newcomers: this site is a bit overwhelming, it's an acquired taste.

December 21, 2005

Patsifan Jared has discovered something cool. In a rare book called "True Quotes by True Stars on True Life," he found a rare quote from Miz Patsy Cline:

"Here's to those who wish me well, cause those who don't will burn in hell!"
~ Patsy Cline, music legend

The bookstore is 1 1/2 hours from his home and, um, Jared has decided to drive back up there and buy this book. I think we can all hereby officially agree that Jared is a true Patsifan! He adds, "The only other text about (Patsy) was in Dottie West's quote in the chapter entitled 'On Influences...' where she cites Patsy: 'I guess you could say that I'm the luckiest girl because I got to meet my true hero. She was a precious person.'"

Recently while surfing around cyberspace, I found a slideshow called "50 Musicians Who Died Too Soon." I thought for a moment that Patsy should be there, then realized that she wasn't technically a musician. As I began paging through the slideshow, I saw that indeed they were keeping to the musician description. Then came Hank Williams. Well, ok, he could play the guitar. Then Buddy Holly... dare I hope for Patsy? Then... there she was. And I felt a catch in my throat and tears in my eyes, because of course her voice should be considered an instrument in and of itself, and it was something that will never be experienced again in generations hence.

From Theresa Shalaby:

Here is something that is very cool, and very positive, as we move forward in 2006:

Tandy Rice, former President of the CMA, leading talent personality, and probably the most highly respected music industry professional in Nashville, is interested in starting a "Family Reunion" Event of Classic Country Music fans in Nashville.

Write Tandy Rice and express interest in possibly attending the inaugural event. He is sort of testing the waters to see what the interest in this might be. PLEASE email him at Tandyrice@aol.com, and just tell him, "Tandy, I am interested in learning more about a possible Country Music Classics Family Reunion in Nashville."

Too cool, huh? Imagine what a forum it would be for Patsy and her fans!!

I agree, Theresa. And too, this is a chance to show the world Patsy's fan power: tell him you'd love to attend this event as a Patsy Cline fan. Show the world you're here for her!

Just a little drop of Christmas cheer here.
