Mom Hensley

A Tribute to "Mom Hensley"
"Death Can Not Kill What Never Dies... Love"

"Mom"
Hilda Virginia Patterson Hensley
March 9, 1916 ~ December 10, 1998

Just a public "thank you" to those who contributed to the flowers fund.   We raised a very nice sum, and our beautiful red 'n white (of course) tribute to Mom consisted of red roses, white lilies, white snapdragons, and Christmas greenery.  Although I had hoped that the florist would be able to photograph the arrangement for us, she was unable to do so.   I am sure it was beautiful, because it represented the love of many, many people!   Rest in peace, Mrs. Hensley....

Mrs. Hensley had been experiencing many health problems, and was undergoing tests at the time of her death (from Jimmy Walker).

Michael March with Winchester Online has sent the following item from The Winchester Star, December 11, 1998:  It made the front page, so that certainly says something!

Michael March writes:

"...Basically all the news I have heard about her death was this morning on the local radio station, WINC. They just mentioned her death and that she was the mother of Patsy Cline... and moved on to the next story."  Thanks, Mike!

Hilda Hensley, the beloved mother of Patsy Cline, passed away at 4:00pm on December 10, 1998.  Public visitation will be Sunday, December 13th, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at Jones Funeral Home at 225 South Pleasant Valley Road in Winchester, Virginia (they handled Patsy's service in 1963).  The public funeral is to be held Monday, December 14th, at 2:00pm at the funeral home, with a graveside service afterwards at National Cemetery there in Winchester.  Mrs. Hensley will be laid to rest next to her husband, and Patsy's father, Sam. ~ written by Lisa Flood

Blooming Red Rose

Blessed Savior, Thou will guide us,
Til we reach that blissful shore,
Where the angels wait to join us,
In that praise forevermore....

The following poem written by Hilda Hensley for her daughter Patsy is reprinted from The Winchester Star, October 15, 1980:

I wonder if you've ever stood beside a casket flanked with flowers
And asked the Lord to help you thank Him for the hours
When she was a child at your knee
For your tender loving care,
For a voice that was filled with laughter and the will to do,
For all the little things that meant so much.

And when she came home late
I'd be waiting at the window
Or leaning on the gate.

Yes, I remember that day forever, when God said, "It's moving day."
He knew my darling daughter was already on her way
To a new home with Him in heaven.

And now when we come home late
She'll be waiting at God's window
Or leaning on heaven's gate.
